Safety Tips for Motorists

Streetcars run along a designated path and come with their own safety considerations. It’s important to remember that they can’t improvise to accommodate common motorist mistakes. Follow these motorist-specific tips to stay safe, and avoid fines and damage to your vehicle:

Do not overtake and or pass any streetcar, even if it isn’t moving. Park your entire vehicle within the white lines to avoid getting towed or fined.

Watch for approaching streetcars before turning.

Look before you open your car door to see if a streetcar is approaching.

Never stop, idle or park your vehicle in the streetcar’s path. This applies to all vehicles, including delivery and service vehicles.

Streetcars are similar to trains. They run on their own rails and can’t make quick moves if your car gets in the way. To stay safe and avoid fines or towing, follow these tips:

  • Don’t pass or get in front of a moving streetcar or one stopped at a red light.
  • Park within the white lines of a parking spot to avoid a ticket or tow.
  • Before you open your door, look to see if a streetcar is coming.
  • Never stop or park in the streetcar’s path. Even if it’s for a quick delivery or pick up.
