About the Streetcar

In 2005, EMBARK’s Board of Trustees approved a Regional Fixed Guideway Plan aimed at strengthening community connections, supporting economic growth and developing new mobility options.

As a result, in 2009 Oklahoma City voters said “yes” to a penny tax via MAPS 3 as part of a $135-million modern transit initiative to build a modern streetcar system and multimodal transportation hub.

Led by a resident-based committee, the OKC Streetcar began its planning and design in 2010 and broke ground in February 2017.

The OKC Streetcar uses priority signaling technology, and real time platforms, similar to the upcoming BRT line. More than 1 million trips have been provided since its launch!

With the launch of the OKC Streetcar, EMBARK continues to provide transportation options that connect people with their community, while easing traffic congestion and reducing air pollution.
