EMBARK will begin offering free non-emergency medical trips to qualified Canadian County residents in 2020, thanks to a grant from Areawide Aging Agency.

EMBARK has provided Senior Transportation Services in Oklahoma County for more than 30 years.

"Our partnership with Areawide Aging Agency enables us to offer this service in Canadian County for the first time,” said Marilyn Dillon, EMBARK Mobility Management Administrator. “We will focus on major cities within the county - for the first six months. We’ll look to add other areas as capacity allows. We encourage everyone needing services in Canadian County to call us. Their feedback will allow us to plan for future expansion and to develop additional service options based on residents’ needs.”

Services will be funded in part by a $60,000 Older Americans Act grant from Areawide Aging Agency plus program donations.

The service will be only for non-emergency medical appointments. A minimum two-day advance reservation is required. EMBARK will begin accepting reservations on January 2. To qualify, Canadian County residents age 60 and over must complete a 10-minute intake phone interview by calling 405-297-2583, option 2. Intake calls will begin on December 30.

The types of non-emergency medical trips include:

  • Doctor appointments
  • Urgent Care visits
  • Transportation to pick up prescriptions
  • Transportation for vaccinations such as flu, shingles, pneumonia shots
  • Prescribed physical therapy
  • The program is not available for post-hospitalization discharge transportation

EMBARK will provide Senior Transportation Services in Canadian County Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. There will be no service on holidays. Trips must begin and end in Canadian County, although transportation to specialists in Oklahoma City can be scheduled with five to seven days prior notice.
